School Holidays Creative Workshops

PaintBrush

This April School Holidays, join MOCS for creative workshops for children and young people aged 8-13.

Description

In the 2023 April School Holidays, MOCS ran creative workshops for children and young people aged 8-13.

We held one workshop in Blaxland, two workshops in Lawson and two workshops in Katoomba over the two weeks of school holidays. Afternoon tea is provided.

About this past project:

Meet facilitators from the new Street Uni, Katoomba, Good Earth Bookshop and local artists as they lead creative workshops designed to boost emotional resilience, encourage expression and foster stronger relationships with peers and local service organisations.

At the end of this series, we will be hosting a community event to showcase the creative work made by the participants. All will be welcome and we can discuss the outcomes of the project. Stay tuned for more information about this.

About each workshop

Zine-Making
Zine-making is a mix between collaging, drawing, writing which then could be self-published in a DIY fashion. At our workshop, you can take inspiration from existing zines and work with facilitators to create zines that reflect what you’re interested in, what may be worrying you, different things that occupy your mind and make up your world. This workshop is led by Good Earth Bookshop’s Mtn Zine Club facilitators. Find out more about Mtns Zine Club here https://www.instagram.com/mtnszineclub/ and Good Earth Bookshop here https://www.goodearthbookshop.com/

Poster Making
In this workshop, you will work with local creatives to create posters that you could hang in your room, use as a form of expression, protest or bring awareness to issues close to your heart.

Rap & Dance
These workshops will be led by awesome facilitators from the new Street Uni, Katoomba. Work with rap artists to write your own lyrics and with a dance facilitator to bust out some moves. Find out more about Street Uni here https://streetuni.com.au/
